The Penang Island Jazz Festival presented by Daimler
Chrysler
Jazz music by the beach – life can’t get any better. We at DaimlerChrysler Malaysia certainly
think so, and that is why we are very pleased to present the third edition of the Penang Island
Jazz Festival come this December 1st to the 3rd.
As a passionate advocate of arts and culture, DCM hopes to promote the language of jazz music
to local music lovers and beyond through this initiative. It is our belief that music has the power
to nurture a harmonious society and uncover hidden talents.
The Festival this year will be held at the Gardens of The Bayview Beach Resort in Batu Ferringhi
on the beautiful tropical island of Penang. In addition to the main performance nights, there will
be workshops and forums as well as a jazz study tour that lead up to the grand finale.
For aspiring jazz musicians, the Jimmy Boyle Young Talent Jazz Competition will be held to
provide a platform for budding jazz stars to showcase their musical prowess. The Fringe Festival
Corner allows for selected groups to perform and experiment with their own brand of music from
1 to 3 December between 4pm to 6pm at the lobby lounge of the resort.
Deejays spin their groovy tunes at the Swing Pub located at the lower lobby while a jazz jam
session will be staged on the final night at the same venue. Keen on art? Browse through
posters, photographs and paintings that will be on display on the mezzanine floor to soak in the
jazzy mood of the festival. |

There is an impressive line-up of jazz maestros for this year’s festival. As part of the Artist
Exchange Program, Korean jazz fusion unit Wave has been invited to share their music with the
local jazz fans. The James Boyle Quartet, Fairus Hussein and Farid Ali & Roger Wang are also
some of the prominent names to look out for. German sensation Java Five will certainly add a bit
more flavour into the hodgepodge of ultra talented musicians come this December as well.
For a bit of visual luxury on top of all that jazzy audio pampering, dedicated Mercedes-Benz
dealer Lowe Motors will also have a car display for the benefit of festival goers at the hotel
lobby. Car enthusiasts should take note that one of the latest Mercedes-Benz models will be
making its mark at the festival as well. Take some time to browse through some spiffy
Mercedes-Benz merchandise items while enjoying the grooves of some great music.
